It commences with injuries to the knee that activate inflammatory pathways. Trauma may predispose to osteoarthritis, called post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA). The disease is diagnosed in the later stages with (KL grade>2) as seen by X-ray; measuring the biomarkers present in the body fluids holds significant promise for the early detection and evaluation of PTOA. The study aimed to establish the role of inflammatory and collagen markers such as serum interleukin 6 (IL-6), transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1), and urine C-terminal cross-linked telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II) in the diagnosis of early post-traumatic osteoarthritis of the knee.
